Scholarship Winners
Latoya Jackson (2003)
She is in her final year at Howard University in Washington, DC. She is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. She is a member of the Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honor Society, Golden Key Honor Society, and the Howard University College of Arts and Sciences Honors Program. Upon graduation, she plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in Dermatology or Anesthesiology.
Lori-Ann Henry)
Lori-Ann Henry was fortunate to have been one of the first recipients of the WIU Scholarship Award. She is in her senior year at Norfolk State University pursing a Bachelors degree in Business Finance (2006). It has been a long journey, and she is excited to say that her anticipated graduation date is December 2006. She presently has a GPA of 3.27.
"By providing me with a scholarship in 2003, WIU has inspired me so that my generation will continue this organization, its traditions, and provide the same support for those who follow. From here, I can only climb higher." She plans to pursue her MBA.
Chaye’ Bernier ( 2004)
A Business Management major with a minor in Finance at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Chaye has been involved with the Unlimited Praise Gospel Choir and Caribbean Connections. She was inducted in the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (with a 4.0 GPA) at University of North Carolina, Charlotte (UNCC) in fall of 2005. She was featured in the July 12th issue of the Virgin Islands Daily News-Student News, for this prestigious award. She intends to pursue my masters in Business Administration and own my own hospitality business. " I want to Thank WIU for the scholarship."
Sheree Alea’ Nicole Smith
She is pursing a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) - 2007 at New World School of the Arts/ University of Florida . She had the pleasure of working with many different choreographers in various types of dances, such as Robert Battle, Mohamed Decasta, and Bambi Anderson. She also collaborated and assisted senior students with their choreography. Yearly, in February, she and other members of a dance group go on tour to local schools in Florida. She is part of the Student Government at New World. " Thank You for making my dream a reality! -“ When I dance even the stars are within reach!”
Shea Anton’ Smith
He is a sophomore at Old Dominion University. He was a member of the Old Dominion University (ODU ) Wrestling team, after walking on fall of 2004. He is currently a Fine Arts Major with a concentration in graphic design and a minor in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he plans to open his own automotive customization design company. "Thanks to WIU for helping me get a jump start on the rest of my life."
Stephen Jackson (2006)
A 2006 graduate of Kempsville High School. While in high school, he was very active in Track and Football. Stephen is attending Norfolk State University where he is studying Graphic design. Stephen plans to try out for Norfolk State’s football team. He is very confident that with hard work, he will make the team. After school, he hopes to study Web Design and Animation. He wants to open a web design company after College.
Matheau Hall
A 2005 Graduate of Landstown High School and presently a soccer team player for Taylor College in Texas. His major is Sports Management with a minor in Business Marketing. Based on the newspaper reports, he was selected as one of the best soccer players in the area. He has played 5 yrs with Beach FC soccer club. He also played regional soccer and represented the USA in soccer. He hopes to continue his soccer training and become one of the best players in college. After college, he hopes to get into Sports Management or play professional soccer.
Jamal Blyden
A 2006 honor graduate of Landstown High School. Jamal plans to study Mathematics at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia. An outstanding track and field sprinter, his list of accomplishments includes high school state championships, AAU Junior Olympics national qualifier and championships at several prestigious meets. He was recently honored as a Hampton Roads Committee of 200+ Men, Inc. Scholar for his outstanding community service and academic achievement. Jamal is also a drummer with the Traditional Caribbean Indians masquerade troupe. Upon graduation from VCU, his goal is to become a commissioned officer in the US Coast Guard.
Tasheka Anika Kiera Richardson ( 2007)
This 2007 advance degree honors graduate of Bayside High School has always tried to maintain at least a “B” average in high school. She engaged in revitalizing the Bayside step team while she was in 11 th grade. She represented Bayside High School in Cosmetology hair design at the Virginia state finals and walked away with the 1st place trophy in her category. She has also represented Virginia Beach in modeling competitions and has also walked away with 1st place in some categories. She plans to attend Tidewater Community College (TCC), Virginia Beach campus in the fall with a major in physical Therapy, and later transfer to Norfolk State to finish my bachelors’ degree. The sky is the limit, and I intend to take a look.
